I am Donna King, the founder of Children First, and one of the teachers on our faculty today. One of the unusual things about Children First is that we are an independent non-profit organization that is housed in a residence. At 1211 Carroll Street, Children First lives downstairs, and my family lives upstairs.
This arrangement benefits Children First in many ways. We have a pleasant and comfortable space at low cost, with shared utilities and access to a kitchen, a laundry, a big backyard, and other “comforts of home.” We benefit tremendously from my husband Kevin’s willingness to help us with everything from de-icing the driveway to troubleshooting our technology. And speaking personally, as a parent passionate about both my work and my family, I have been privileged to be close to my home and children while doing the work I love most. My three grown children — Cara, Anna Grace and Josh — are all graduates of Children First, and still consider the Children First community their second family.
So, on behalf of Children First and the King-McClain family, I welcome your interest in this one-of-a-kind early childhood community.
Warmly,
Donna
… we are teachers not by chance, but because we are exploding with intentions. Just like children and babies, we are seekers of meaning…making meaning is the process that moves us to act.
